Akamai Project:  Building a Database for GEODSS UCT’s

Project Site:  Northrop Grumman

Mentors: Albert Esquibel and Shane Ige

Project Abstract:

Ground-based Electro Optical Deep Space Surveillance (GEODSS) is part of the Air Force Space Command’s Opitical Space Surveillance Network. GEODSS conducts deep space surveillance in support of the Air Force Space Command’s space control mission. When the GEODSS’s telescope detects an object that is not recognized, it becomes and Uncorrelated Target (UCT). My project is to create a database in Microsoft Access to store information about the UCTs. Inclination, moon phase and observation information will be stored. The data is collected from the objects’s orbital element set compiled on the workstation computer. Northrop Grumman GEODSS employees on Maui will have sole access to this database. This data will help determine what kind of orbit the object is in, if the moon had an effect on the number of UCTs found, and if a certain number of observations would give a better feedback.
