Project Abstract:
Using WinSpec/32 software, spectral data will be collected from light emitted by the Sun and stored in a Solar Spectral Database that will be created for this project. Using this collection of data, a model of the Sun’s spectrum will be assembled and
compared to already existing spectral data of similar stars, stars that are comparable in composition and light emission. After assembling a spectrum of the Sun, atmospheric absorption modeling of air mass will be done to simulate the transmission and emission of light in the atmosphere using the High-resolution Transmission molecular database (HITRAN). Asteroid and satellite observations have been done using light emitted by similar stars, so this is the first time spectral data from our own Sun we be used to determine composition of asteroids by light they reflect.
