Project Title: Designing a Portable Test Station for Serial & LAN Devices at Subaru Telescope

Project Abstract: The Subaru telescope, located near the summit of Maunakea, Hawaii, has a variety of sensors that are
used to monitor environmental settings inside of the observatory. These devices measure an assortment of different readings, such as temperature, gas levels, and airflow. However, when these devices run into issues, they cannot be easily tested due to being at the summit. To address this issue, a portable testing station is being created so that it can be used to test and configure those devices at the observatory. The test station will also be capable of troubleshooting issues and identifying whether the issue is network related or a problem with the device itself. This test station will consist of a network switch, terminal server, power controller, and power source for the different types of sensors at the summit. Additionally, a web interface must be created in order to output the telemetry data onto a web page. Software development will use primarily Python to run scripts through the portable test station and send the data to a local computer. A manual must also be created for usage by staff at the summit and to assist in setting up the programming software. The final step will be to verify if accurate data readings are acquired through the test station and output onto the web interface for a multitude of instruments.
